In early March, East’s beloved library clerk Ms. Sloma went into retirement. She will be dearly missed by East library frequenters and staff alike as a crucial part of the school support staff.

Ms. Sloma began working at East in 2014. She assisted students with printing off of the computers, finding books, as well as checking them out. She also shelved returns. In addition, she always kept her desk decorated for the seasons and holidays and livened up the library even before Mrs. Weber arrived and remodeled everything! She was also known for her love of fashion, as she always had an outfit coordinated with East events, holidays, and Bills games, as well as puzzles. She enjoyed helping students assemble puzzles in her downtime and printed out crossword puzzles every single day for everyone to enjoy.

Although Mrs. Weber has not been at East for very long, she has felt firsthand Ms. Sloma’s dedication to the East library and her work ethic. When she was working to reorganize the library and sort the books, Ms. Sloma was an invaluable help. “Genrefying the library was a huge project that we couldn’t have done without Ms. Sloma and Mrs. Van Kerkhove,” Mrs. Weber says. “[It was a lot] of moving books around and relabeling everything!”

Outside of school, Ms. Sloma has a beloved Bichon Frise dog named Muffin, whom she adopted this year. She formerly had another dog of the same breed named Tory, who also remains very near and dear to her. In addition, Ms. Sloma cared for her elderly mother for years, but unfortunately, her mother passed away the same week she was slated to retire. We at the East Side News offer her our condolences and hope that she has been taking care.

Prior to working at East, Ms. Sloma took on jobs in the mental health field, in addition to working as a limo driver and a flight attendant for two airlines. Talk about multi-talented! Her love of travel from her flight attendant days has never dwindled–the new job she has since taken on involves organizing trips for people and getting to travel alongside them. Mrs. Weber speaks for all of us library frequenters when shes says, “We will miss Ms. Sloma so much in the library, but we are very excited for her upcoming adventures!” We thank you, Ms. Sloma, to the good you have brought to the library, and we wish you safe travels and a happy retirement from East.
