In the past few weeks, many different clubs have been getting in the holiday spirit by raising money to help people in need.

Stand Up, Stand Out collected toys up until the 13th for Roswell Park cancer patients. This was for their annual Tree of Hope Celebration.

This celebration will occur on December 14th from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Kaminski Park and Gardens in Buffalo. It is free, open to the public, and is “offering hope to those touched by cancer,” according to their website.

There will be live music, a visit from old St. Nick and Mrs. Claus, as well as horse drawn carriage rides and the annual candle-lighting ceremony.

Hot cocoa and cider, cookies, doughnuts, and kettle corn are just some of the delicious treats that will be sold at the lighting celebration, with all the money going to aid cancer research.

Amnesty International sold cookies before and after school on the 11th and 12th for one dollar, with all proceeds going to benefit local refugees.

Hands Around the World sold hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows, and crushed candy canes in the Commons for the week of the 3rd and used all the money to help victims of the California wildfires.

The wildfires that hit California recently was incredibly damaging, with thousands of people losing their homes and livelihoods. The town of Paradise, near to where one of the fires started, was completely leveled by the blaze.

Hands Around the World is trying to provide relief to some of those people who were displaced by the most destructive wildfire season in California’s history.

Sources of Strength also played their part during their “Sources of Strength Week.” On Thursday, for “Thoughtful Thursday,” they collected winter gear to donate to a local shelter. People donated items such as gloves, hats, scarves and blankets to keep those who need it warm and cozy during the coming cold winter months.

It is very important to try and give aid to those who need it and East High School is putting in the effort to do this.
