Coffee House Hits the Spot

The East Side News Coffee House is part talent show, jam session, poetry slam, and late-night cafe, but above all it’s every bit a good time. Last month’s spring Coffee House was a huge success, featuring varied acts and more food than ever before!

Our usual Coffee House fare of hot caffeinated drinks, lemonade, iced tea, baked goods, crepes, and waffles is enough to entice customers, but this month we upped our culinary game and added mac and cheese and 3 types of gourmet paninis to the menu. Why go to Panera Bread when you can come to East on a Friday night and eat sandwiches named after our newspaper editors (Sally Yi and myself), our newspaper TEAM (aka Theresa Elaine Abigail Meosky) or Prahbu Sasankan, all diligently prepared by East Side News staff? And you haven’t lived until you’ve tasted Mr. Huber’s reformulated “healthy” Paula Deen “Mac&Chee”. The wildly successful Coffee House menu revamp, along with our new streamlined food ordering system, just goes to show how multitalented our East Side News staff and writers are. (If that prospective journalism career ever fails, at least we know we’ll have promising futures in restaurant management.)

Students typically come to the Coffee House for the food, but they definitely stay for the music and show. We feature all types of bands and performers, ranging from the original high school rock band to classical soloists to East’s definitely-a-big-deal jazz group Swing Theory. On top of these amazing musical acts, the Coffee House stage has been the place for aspiring open-mic comedians to test out new jokes, our school’s poets to share their writing, and for Shakespeariment members to monologue their hearts out.

The East Side Coffee House is not just a show or a place to buy really good, really cheap food. It’s a gathering of all types of East students and an opportunity for any one of you to show your talents or simply have a good time with friends. Be sure to attend our next Coffee House in order to sample our new menu, listen to some great live music, and perhaps create some lasting memories along the way.
