Muslim Student Association, or MSA, is a club that meets every other Thursday in room 313 and everyone is welcome. Their goal is to promote their Islamic culture and share their beliefs with students from different cultures.
Senior officer, Nour Touti, says that one of her hopes is to clear up anything that might be misconstrued or that the media have misled about the religion. She also wants MSA to be a culture of unity and a place of acceptance to everyone, as well as a comfortable atmosphere for everyone to express themselves and their religion.
Recently, the club sold shawarma, a food from their culture. Their first fundraiser was a success; it brought many people together as a school and members of the MSA itself. They just ended their second fundraiser before Ramadan (which starts March 22), where they raised money for the people in Syria, Turkey, which just suffered a huge earthquake. Member Anea Faulkner said that one of her favorite memories was taking a trip to the Mosque and learning how to “do henna” with other members in the group.
Advisor Ms. Uddin said, “Having the MSA club is supposed to help Muslim students and others be themselves; they don’t have to be shy or be scared to bring their culture to light.”
About being a senior, Nour wanted to give the underclassmen a word of advice to never be scared to join a club, because in the end it could be a great experience.
