Daft Punk, French house duo, sweeps 5 awards at this year's Grammys.

The 56th Grammy Awards started off with a highly anticipated act by Beyonce. The big question was whether or not she would be joined by her talented husband Jay-Z. Sure enough he joined her halfway through her performance as they sang “Drunk in Love”, a song off of Beyonce’s new album she secretly dropped a few weeks back.

LL Cool J was the host of this show, and gave a fabulous speech about how music has shaped our generation. The awards kicked off as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won Best New Artist. They are most known for their first song “Thrift Shop”. “Same Love”, is another one of their popular songs, which they performed later in the award show. During their performance of “Same Love”, 30 couples got married by Queen Latifah. How cool would it be to say you got married at the Grammy’s by Queen Latifah?

Lorde performed her hit song “Royals” during the show, followed by a performance from Hunter Hayes and his new song Invisible.  The next award to be given out was for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which was given to Daft Punk and Pharrell Lewis for their song “Get Lucky”. Daft Punk was adorned in their trademark helmets, so Pharrell gave the thank you speech for this award.

The next performance was from Katy Perry and Juicy J and their song “Dark Horse”. This was a very dark performance but it definitely fit the mood of the song. It was very Lady GaGa esque. Chicago and Robin Thicke had an interesting collaboration which transformed into Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines”. Taylor Swift gave an emotional performance of “All Too Well” and Pink performed “Just Give Me a Reason”, which involved a lot of acrobatics and cool stunts.

Other notable performances were given by Keith Urban, Ringo Starr, Kacey Musgraves, Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar, and many more amazing artists. The Best Pop Solo Performance award was given to Lorde and the Producer of the Year award went to Pharrell Williams. Unorthodox Jukebox won Best Pop Vocal Album and the Best Country Award went to Kacey Musgraves. The Song of the Year was awarded to Lorde for Royals and the Record of the Year was awarded to Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams for Get Lucky. The final award of the night which was for Album of the Year went to Daft Punk for their album Random Access Memories. Overall the 56th Grammy Awards was a success and very entertaining.
