The Problem With Consumerism Culture

0
Overconsumption is something we know all too well. Because the average household income is more than $100,000, we simply have too much money to spend. Residents of East Amherst turn to overconsumption as a way to burn through their cash.

What It Means to Be a Hallmarkie

0
It’s the holiday season, but true Hallmarkies know it started on October 22nd with the Hallmark Countdown to Christmas kickoff. Still, it’s better late than never to join in on the action and give the Hallmark Channel a chance this year. Here’s why you should include Hallmark's latest lineup in your festivities this holiday season.

Easter and the Rabbit Purchase-Abandonment Spike

0
It’s really no surprise that this holiday has a strong correlation with the sale of domesticated rabbits. However, what many people don’t know is the other side of this phenomenon--the rise in abandonment rates in the months following Easter.

Perception vs. Reality

0
Everyone has the right to their own views and their own beliefs. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion on a certain matter. There’s no right or wrong in what you hold an opinion over because opinions are judgements made on certain matters, but they’re not always based on facts or knowledge. While there’s nothing wrong with holding your own specific views, there is a huge issue with arguing why your opinion is valid and why someone else’s opinion isn’t.

The 2020 Election: Chaos Galore

0
No matter what happens, the 2020 Election is destined to be marked by chaos. In my opinion, it will be even more chaotic than the 2000 Election and, yes, the 2016 Election too. But doesn’t Joe Biden have a pretty commanding lead over Trump right now in the polls?

Patrick Bateman: Almost Every Man’s “Literally Me” Character

0
American Psycho follows main character Patrick Bateman through his very peculiar, yet fascinating life. Patrick is depicted as a handsome, wealthy young man during New York City’s yuppie culture spike. He quite literally gets anything he wants. Whether it be women, clothes, or even a spot at Dorsia! as long as he has the money for it, he gets it. But he does it only for one reason… to “fit in”. Patrick desperately wants to fit into a world that he so terribly despises. And although Patrick seems like the rest of his co-workers and friends , viewers quickly find out that he hides his alternate psychopathic ego. Despite his big ego, Bateman also expresses feelings of anxiety and low self-esteem, which is often the reason for many of his killing sprees. He targets victims due to the fact that they challenge his ego and make him feel inferior or inadequate. As the storyline progresses, the character delves deeper and deeper into his sexually deviant fantasies, psychotic habits, and horrendous murders, and fans can do nothing but watch his mind descent into madness.

Bozos: The Fourth Appeal

0
We all know about the three appeals: Ethos, Pathos and Logos. Ethos is the appeal to credibility in an argument, Pathos is the appeal to emotion, and Logos is the appeal to logic. These three appeals are the core to any English class you will take - but there is actually a hidden fourth appeal: Bozos.

As flu and cold season are in full swing, students are coming into school sick. It’s showing ever-increasing importance for flexible lesson planning, where sick kids could stay home because they can still learn online.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Unoriginality

0
2021 has been a great year for the singer and former Disney Channel star Olivia Rodrigo. While her fans may believe that her music and style are original, it is easy to see that she plagiarizes almost everything she does.
