An accomplished trumpet player, editor-in-chief of newspaper, president of wind ensemble, and host of The Bonfire, he is undoubtedly a force to behold--but, like Vonnegut, he remains humble.

Mrs. Ieda has been a part of the music department at East for five years, and this year, she has completely taken over teaching the Symphonic and Philharmonic orchestras.

Ms. Calleri inspires us all with her enthusiasm, her dedication to her students, and her willingness to always take the time to help others. Her extraordinary lesson plans infused with impressive technology engages students and makes learning fun.

I would like to pass the TORCH to a strong, compassionate and caring person, someone that I have had the pleasure to co-teach with for 15 going on 16 years--Mrs. Bailey.

Everyone deserves to have a safe place where they can let go of their stress and just relax. This was Kelly DeBerg’s driving purpose when she created AURA Salt Cave and Wellness, a local business that offers natural and holistic services for the overall wellbeing of the body, mind, and spirit of their customers.

Political Forum is one of East’s clubs that returned this spring, run by Dr. Redmond of the Social Studies department. The club is focused on providing a respectful environment to discuss many different political issues. So far, discussion topics have been gun control, the death penalty, and minimum wage.

To celebrate this important milestone of turning 101, SADD set an initial goal of 101 cards for Beulah. Thanks to all the hardworking individuals at East, SADD was able to surpass this goal at 247% of the initial number and sent 249 cards to Beulah on April 23rd.

Excitement levels are high all across East. From a survey where 81.4% of participants were involved in the music department, a considerable 92.7% of students and faculty said that they were excited about the expansion.

Different teachers across the school’s various departments have employed an assortment of new strategies to assess if students are genuinely learning, while trying to minimize both cheating and technological hurdles. Students have had to adjust their studying habits while enormously increased screen-time puts their dedication to the test.

Despite not being able to meet in person for any meetings, the GSA is creating safety for students at East through Zoom meetings every other Thursday.
